This was my first caving trip. When we arrived at T.C.C headquarters of course me and my mom went to go claim our camp spot and attempt to pitch a tent. We eventually had our tent up after an hour full of yelling at air mattresses and the rocks in the ground. After that fun experience me and my mom went down to the headquarters for pizza and to meet everyone who had arrived earlier.
After meeting everyone we went over to Avery Ranch Cave, which is a show cave owned by T.C.C. The cave was accidentally found while bing worked on in construction. The formations in the cave were amazing. After seeing that I was just pumped to know that I get to see more of this all weekend.
When our group got back to the headquarters we met Christopher, Leslie, and Chad. They were getting ready to head out to a cave called Marigold. They invited us along but we really wanted to start a bon fire but I also was really was wanting to see another cave. SO we packed up our gear and headed out. On the car ride there the nerves kicked in "Like am I really capable of doing something like this?" "What if this or that happens?" But I had to think about how I would feel after and I need to just do it. I don't know how well I hid my nerves but I got myself in that cave. There were two entrances we went through the left side first when me and my mom came up to an area I didn't want to go through I just backed out and said I am not ready for that. The right side was awesome knowing I can squeeze through rock and see whats on the other side just seems cool. On our way out of the cave we saw animal bones and my Mom gave a me a very significant biology lesson and taught me how to put raccoon bones together.
After caving for the night e got back to the camp sight around 3 a.m and it was FREEZING! So we decided to camp out in our car....so heres the drama of the weekend we finally start to fall asleep and let's just say we got an hour of sleep.
The next day there was a crap load of new people and me and my mom took a shower and she headed out to a more advanced cave and I stayed with a different group, it made me very nervous knowing my mom wasn't going to be in the caves with me. But I knew some people already from the night before and just kept thinking "hey it's caving suck it up". I am sorry but the class I couldn't pay attention with all the nerves and I just wanted to get in a cave but I tried.
Our first cave was Animal Canyon not really much in there but animal bones (Hint "animal Canyon"). Our second cave was Avery Ranch so everyone else could see it. It took forever to get to the cave we had seven cars we kept losing everybody and we showed up at the wrong cave but me and Barbra fixed that problem. Our last cave was Cat hollow I loved this cave me, Pink light (William,), Shaun, Daniel, went through a squeeze and the formations were beautiful. When we got out of Cat Hollow we went to Subway and me and pink light were the muddiest and a guy walks in looks at us and walks out we were so proud sportthe new look we have.
After getting back and NOT going in to Becks Ranch took a shower and just hung around. Terry cooked an amazing dinner. Me and this one dude took this little boy into Wilcox Cave #2 nothing much down there. I got the name Princess from everyone because I won't eat off the floor...
Yet for that day I didn't have enough caving done for me. So our group Me, Justin, Jon, Aubrie, Lydia, Galen, and some other dude went back to marigold Cave. Fact me and Galen were the only ones who have been in there, but everyone was repelling down the pits except for me and Jon which is not what everyone else thought we all went into the pit. What actually happened me and Jon went through the cave while people repelled and we hung out. But once we got back to the headquarters I walk in and I get asked repeatedly "DID YOU GO IN THE PIT????" and uhmm I didn't. I wish though.
So my Mom went to bed and I hung out with Galen, Karen, Jon, and some dude. Galen told us the new measurement for 1.8 meters is Galen's. In the morning we had a really great breakfast, a pain in the butt clean up o the tent we didn't sleep in. We packed up everything said our good-byes and left T.C.C Headquarters.
I met lots of awesome people, and had a very great weekend and I have to say I think I am hooked on caving, I loved it. I am proud of myself because I swore I would never do caving EVER so I am happy I did it and I am going to continue caving and hopefully learn vertical and become more advanced. Thanks to T.C.C and my Mom I had an awesome weekend:)
